The Helena Hotshots are looking to fill between 2 and 6 seasonal positions. Average new crew members have between 2-4 years of previous wildland experience. Their Superintendent Fred Thompson signs his emails "Opera Non Verba" which is Latin for "Deeds not words." So you better be ready to impress from day one. Physical fitness is very important, especially hiking strength. "If you are unable to keep up on the hikes, you will not be put on the manifest until you can can."

Advice for applying from Supt. Thompson: Please take the time to provide a good application for us to review. Do not assume that the person evaluating your application will know anything about fire. Do not put general statements like “moved dirt, chop brush, and fell trees” or “Did all duties expected of a _____ crewmember”. Explain your experience to us clearly. For example; if you were assigned lookout duties on a fire, tell us what it means to be a lookout, etc."
More information about the crew and the application process can be found here in a letter sent to all 2011 prospective candidates.
